We made it to the light! | Stage 5: Punch List

Posted on July 22nd, by Christina Roberts in Insignia.

Last stage: Punch list and settling in – we made it to the light!Wow! What a journey it’s been – we made it and we are very happy with it! The kitchen turned out amazing and wonderful, and at the same time, I am so glad it’s over!

The last few items on the punch list were completed yesterday – additional parts were needed and it took a couple of weeks to gather it all together so the contractor could finish up! But we made it – DONE! FINISHED! COMPLETE! YAY!Over the past few weeks, even though we were not all the way finished, we have hosted several informal gatherings with close friends and family. And I am happy to say the kitchen has worked wonderfully! I kind of felt like I was practicing in my own space – HA!

Light at the end of the tunnel – Stage 4

Posted on June 21st, by Terry Kenney in Insignia.

There are so many options for countertops these days that I can certainly understand how a customer might feel confused and overwhelmed. The man-made materials that mimic natural stone are a great choice for people who are concerned with the maintenance of a natural stone. Cambria, Vicostone, Silestone and Caesarstone are some of the more common choices. These materials area all known as Quartz surfaces. They vary in the colors so it truly becomes a personal preference for each space. The Quartz materials come in slabs and are fabricated the same way as a natural stone. And the price will vary depending on the color and manufacturer, just as there is a variety in pricing for natural stone.

Kitchen designer tackles her own kitchen // Stage 3 // The Waiting Game!

Posted on May 26th, by Terry Kenney in Insignia.

Well, I have to say that I am still extremely excited about getting this kitchen done! It’s been a journey to get to this point, and it’s not over yet! And I can hear the click of every second going by – kind of like the Jeopardy game show jingle while the contestants write down their answers! Do do do do, do do do, do, dodo dodo do do! (I know you are singing it in your head now)

It probably sounds like I am crying in my soup about how long it’s taking! I’m really not – I guess I am being more reflective of how this is going since I am on the other side of the project now. I do know that the construction will continue tomorrow, and I am very anxious to get this project rockin’ and … Read More »

A Designer’s Own Kitchen // Stage 2 – Demo!

Posted on May 9th, by Terry Kenney in Insignia.

And so, here we are – a few days away from the start of the demo of the kitchen. All at once I am excited and nervous!

This kitchen needed to be remodeled years ago. We are replacing a kitchen that is 24 years old – it needed to be done! So I know all of the planning and selecting and work will be well worth the effort! The use of the space will increase drastically and the organization will be so much better. And therefore, so will the enjoyment we get from entertaining our friends and family! I am so glad this will be done in time to enjoy most of the summer with the new space – I see a kitchen christening party happening in June!

All of this excitement and anticipation is being met with a great deal of … Read More »

Kitchen & Bath Designer in Barrington, IL remodels her own kitchen

Posted on March 22nd, by Terry Kenney in Kitchen, Remodeling.

Who is a designer’s worst customer? Herself!Let me explain: For 8 years I have lived in our home and enjoyed almost every aspect of it! It’s situated on the river where we keep our boat and enjoy the best spring/summer living that the Midwest has to offer. We have a great deck that provides perfect outdoor living space with a great view of the river. We have had lots of fun on the deck with friends and family.

The home is a log home – not true log in that this home is traditionally framed – with logs applied to the outside of the home as well as the inside. The great room/kitchen area is wonderful for entertaining as well as daily living. It’s an open room with a loft above the kitchen space, and a two story ceiling and log beams. … Read More »
